Hi, I’m Kayla

My Story

Hi! My name is Kayla. I was born and raised in Baton Rouge, LA where I still live with my husband and two boys. I have a full time job and this is my hobby turned second “job”. My mom and Gramma taught me to quilt when I was 17 years old and I’ve kept the craft close to my heart ever since. I’ve always made quilts for myself, my friends, their babies and my family. Along the way I’ve also sold a handful of quilts to friends and acquaintances. When my first son was born in July of 2019 I had less time for my hobby but was still able to make projects including dozens of homemade masks I personally delivered to people around town when the world shut down in 2020. I even traded a Superior margarita for a few which is totally worth it (iykyk). When my second son was born in December of 2020 I had even less time and more important, less space for quilting in our 1,100 square foot home. Luckily, we moved to a larger house in July of 2021, however, with two young boys there was still no space for me to really spread out my machines, supplies and quilting “stash”.

In November 2022 I finally had the boys situated in the same room, their playroom moved to the spare bedroom, and there was a little space to have my own “studio". My plans were to make some quilts and items to send to a shop shared by my mom and her cousins in Natchez, MS. Maybe I’d be able to bring in some extra money, I thought. About that time, I had two previous customers reach out to order a total of four tshirt quilts. These orders did a couple things for me. They lit a little fire that turned my casual return to quilting to a more urgent matter and they sparked a little idea that I couldn’t get out of my head…maybe I can do more of this? Maybe I can make a little business…

Outside of being a wife and mom, my full time job, and quilting I like to run, do triathlons and sometimes sleep. I mainly do these fitness things for the social aspect, post sweat bevvys and pictures. I’ve run 5 half marathons, 1 full marathon, and done a few sprint triathlons. If you see me running give me a honk and a wave.
