What’s the difference between a blanket and a quilt?

Some advertisements you see for tshirt quilts are in fact, just blankets. They will take your shirts and maybe stabilize them, sew a backing on and call it a quilt. But a quilt is actually three layers: a pieced top, batting and backing that are sandwiched together quilted through all three layers and then bound. Quilts last decades because of their construction. When preserving your cherished thsirts or your loved one’s clothing it’s best to make sure you are getting a good quality quilt and not a cheap blanket.

Can you use shirts other than tshirts?

Yes, I am able to use most shirts and clothing items in a ‘tshirt’ quilt. Cotton tshirts, jerseys, dry fit / tech shirts, chino style shorts, dress pants, dress shirts, dresses, pajamas and nightgowns are all acceptable. I cannot use knit items like sweaters, workout apparel like leggings, or heavily sequined or bedazzled items.
Some tank tops and vnecks will require extra piecing to build a block which can incur an $8.50/block surcharge.

Do you ship?

Yes, I ship within the US. I will notify you once I receive your shirts. Return shipping is not included in the advertised pricing. Shipping will be added to your final invoice.

Should I cut my shirts to save money on shipping?

I would not suggest cutting your shirts to save money on shipping. If they are cut too small I will have to build a block which can incur an $8.50/block surcharge.

What is the current turnaround time?

Processing time starts when I receive your shirts. Turnaround time varies. Please contact me directly at kayla@tshirtquiltsbykayla.com for the current turnaround time. Generally quilts can be shipped or locally delivered within 2-4 weeks after I receive your shirts.

Can I plan my own layout?

You can absolutely plan your own layout. Be aware based on graphics sizing your layout may not work. I will take in to consideration all requests when creating your tshirt quilt. I will communicate with you if a specific layout is not going to work and suggest other options.

Will my tshirt remnants be returned to me?

Any unused tshirt scraps will be discarded unless otherwise requested.
If there are completely unused shirts I will return those with your finished quilt.

How can I ensure I will get my quilt for a specific date?

Plan ahead! Remember I have a full time job and am a full time mom. Contact me for current turnaround times and order with time to spare!

Do you accept returns?

No, due to the nature of a custom order quilt there are no returns on made to order items.
I want you to love your quilt as much as you loved your tees. If you have a problem with your quilt please reach out to me at kayla@tshirtquiltsbykayla.com to resolve.

Do you donate to local school auctions or fundraisers?

Yes. Any interested organization can contact me through the Contact page. Donations are done in the following ways:
1. Custom tshirt quilt for auctions.
2. Raffle Quilts made with your organization’s tshirts. Your school or team provides the tshirts and a supply fee (based on style of quilt) and I donate my time to create a quilt to be raffled off.
